Powerful Benefits of Music Education

We can watch young children singing, dancing, laughing, and playing and see how much they enjoy music. But it's amazing to stop and think about all the benefits children gain from music in the classroom and at home. A recent article from the Children's Music Workshop, "Twelve Benefits of Music Education", points out just a few:

"Music study develops skills that are necessary in the workplace. It focuses on "doing," as opposed to observing, and teaches students how to perform, literally, anywhere in the world....In the music classroom, students can also learn to better communicate and cooperate with one another.

Music study enhances teamwork skills and discipline.

Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions....Questions about the arts do not have only one right answer."

Welcome today, friends of mine!

Welcome to all of our new friends and their families, and welcome back to all of our returning families. We’re glad to have you with us.

We hope you are enjoying your Kindermusik classes and piano lessons. Watch this space; we will be adding fun things to do, music and videos, information for parents, and interesting links for each of the classes during the semester. If you find something you and your family like, please send me the information or link so I can add it here.

Just a note: Many of my Kindermusik teacher friends have found wonderful YouTube links with family-friendly music and video. There are wonderful, funny, and interesting things to watch and hear. If you look up these videos at your house, please do this with your children. Sometimes one video links to another, which links to another, and so on—and your child may find they end up in a very different NOT-family-friendly place. YouTube has some limits, but there is much that is not meant for children.

I hope you will enjoy this new way to pass on information and have lots of musical fun at home!

More Zoo Fun at the Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo was a wonderful place to spend a sunny day this week. I hope you enjoy the slide show of some of the animals we saw!

Hooray for the zoo today!

This train may not be the Allee Allee O, but it travels through a wonderful zoo in St. Louis, Missouri. I thought of all my Zoo Train friends as I watched the chimpanzees, elephants, bears, penguins, and sea lions. You can watch a slide show of some of my favorite animals. Which animal is your favorite?

The animals on the carousel go up and down and round and round...

This wonderful carousel is in the St. Louis Zoo, one of the most impressive zoos I've seen. I was thinking of my Confetti Days friends when I saw it. There are so many different animals to ride on here. Which one is your favorite?
